Despite the consequences of climate change and the El Niño phenomenon worldwide, the Panama Canal continues to operate normally. Some adjustments have been made to save water, in order to maintain normal and uninterrupted traffic for the benefit of global trade.

Since January 2023, the Panama Canal Authority has adopted a series of transitory measures, which respond to the current climate context, which has forced, in a responsible manner, to reduce the number of daily transits through the interoceanic route from 36 to 32 vessels, ensuring the option of a reliable and sustainable interoceanic route for the world shipping community.
