Emirates Shipping Association congratulates Monjasa on a significant milestone for UAE maritime: the official reflagging of Monjasa Shaker to the UAE registry.
The reflagging took place on 9 April 2026 during a scheduled drydocking campaign at Dubai Maritime City — marking Monjasa as one of the first international shipowners to place tanker tonnage under the UAE flag. It is a meaningful step, and one that aligns closely with the Association’s own advocacy for a stronger, more competitive UAE flag state.
Monjasa has operated in the Emirates for two decades, primarily engaged in cabotage shipping between Dubai, Fujairah and Abu Dhabi. The decision to reflag reflects both the depth of that operational commitment and confidence in the UAE’s evolving maritime law framework.
As Anders Østergaard, Group CEO of Monjasa and Secretary General of Emirates Shipping Association, puts it:
“Reflagging Monjasa Shaker to the UAE registry supports our core operations in the region, where our fleet serves customers daily across multiple UAE ports. It also reflects our strong connection to the country following 20 years of maritime operations in the Emirates.”
Monjasa’s support for Emirates Shipping Association as Diamond Sponsor has always gone beyond the financial — it reflects a genuine alignment with the work of building a stronger UAE maritime sector. This reflagging is a natural extension of that.
This is not a one-vessel story. Monjasa Shaker is the first of three fully owned tankers earmarked for UAE registration, with Monjasa Server (9,600 dwt) and Monjasa Shipper (7,991 dwt) to follow during their next planned surveys. Together, the three vessels represent a deliberate and phased commitment to flying the UAE flag across the company’s regional fleet.
The broader significance should not be understated. When established international operators of Monjasa’s standing choose to align with the national registry, it strengthens the case for the UAE as a flag state of choice — and adds weight to the work the Association continues to advance in that space.
We look forward to seeing the UAE flag flying across Monjasa’s full regional fleet. Read the full press release here.
