Anchoring Progress, the Emirates Shipping Association’s exclusive members-only event, was held on Tuesday 19th September, bringing together our members to connect, as well as learn key industry insights from our two esteemed speakers on two important topics in the maritime industry.
Jairajesh Nadar from Deloitte Middle East discussed the impact of Corporate Tax vs Tonnage Tax by providing a comprehensive understanding of the regulatory landscape in the maritime sector. Mr. Nadar’s contributions helped shed light by revealing key strategies and deep insights into corporate structures for optimising tax obligations. Discussions progressed toward the possibility of taxation of mainland companies so that they are on par with free zone companies along with how the UAE can become a maritime hub by reforming the flag rules and incorporating a tonnage tax regime.
Amna Abdulla Al Suwaidi, Head of Partnerships and Outreach at Emirati Talent Competitiveness Council’s NAFIS walked our members through the opportunities and advantages when hiring National talent for roles in the maritime sector. Ms Al Suwaidi noted the Emirati Salary Support Scheme, which could be leveraged to provide job training, along with a salary top-up for a maximum of five years. Ms Al Suwaidi also highlighted NAFIS’ Talent Program, aimed at developing and empowering talent with relevant professional training programs and internationally-accredited certifications, at no cost to the employer.
Events such as these are an opportunity to bring our members together for their voices to be heard. We would like to give special thanks to HFW for their support for the event.
